like a second home for Google Drive

I sometimes dream of a second home. I picture myself sitting on the porch listening to the mellow waves of Lake Michigan lulling me to sleep. Having two homes would be awesome for many reasons. Did you know your files and folders in Google Drive can also have two homes? Check out how easy it is, just by hitting SHIFT  + Z on your keyboard. I needed the Breakout EDU folder to remain in my 2017-2018 folder and be in the 2018-2019 folder at the same time. Any changes made inside the folder will appear instantly in both locations. 1. Find the folder/file you need in two places, click on it. Click the  SHIFT + Z keys. You should see this dropdown appear. 2. Find and click on where you want the folder/file to also appear. 3. Click add.

Can you ever have enough in your Drive?

How big is your Drive? You should see a number on the far left side of your screen. Click that to see what is taking up space. I have seen our Google Drives grow in size every year. I would assume in the next two years these Drives will be massive. So if you have a billion files can you really find what you need quickly? I know you can just use the search at the top but did you know there is a better way? Search Within Doing a basic search yields too many results. Most of the time I have to scroll a lot to find what I need no matter how I search for it. Did you know with one right click you can narrow down your search in a snap? Open your Drive. 1. Find the folder you think the file is in, right click on it. 2. Click Search within ( should see your folder name right here ) The screen doesn't look all that different once your right click.  Start typing in the usual search area at the top of Drive. The search results are only things in the folde...

What is your plan?

We were driving down the road and experienced some odd electrical issue, the GPS stopped charging. The unit only had enough battery to last until we hit Chicago. I would have been concerned but I had a backup plan. Below the GPS I had my tablet running Waze . I have been told there are two types of people, those who have lost data and those who will. Do you have a plan if your laptop suddenly dies? Are there folders that need to be backed up but aren't? Google just released a totally new Google Drive back up and sync tool. I currently have just over 110 gigs in my Drive which was too big for the older desktop Google Drive tool. What they added was the ability for me to just back up one folder from my desktop without having to download everything on my Drive. It is brilliant. UPDATE - MARCH 2018 Only read the updated section if you are currently using Google Drive for PC. If you are not and want to use Back Up and Sync skip to the getting started section. You need to ...

Why can't I find certain files anymore in Google Drive?

image by fdecomite I was asked a question last night and it really got me thinking. We used to have to really watch our H Drives (anyone still remember those?) and keep everything highly organized and weed out old files. I took a look at her Google Drive and noticed she had 9 gigs of files. I opened mine and I have 76 gigs! Those mean we both have files on top of files. Search through all of this is like looking for a needle in a needle stack, not an easy task. I started looking around to find techniques for efficient searching Google Drive. Here is what I found. I wanted to find all the docs that Doug owned. I typed this into the search bar: owner:dbarton I know there was a doc created after a certain date. I used this to search: after:2015-01-03 About a year ago I created a document that talked about the Promethean software. I'm not sure what the document was called but I'm pretty sure I mentioned the word Promethean somewhere. All I did to find what I was lo...

Easy way to create a short?

Your students want to create a short video and you are looking for a way to make that happen. Questions: What devices do you need to create a video? What software do we have to edit? How can we share these videos? Answers: Devices - just use anything you have access to.  Mobile phones and tablets will work best for capturing the shots. Software - Check out WeVideo .  The students can log in with their Lindbergh account.  Upload the videos they shot on any device and begin to edit.  All of the footage will be stored online.      3.   Sharing -             High School Students - upload to YouTube.              Middle/Elementary - upload to Google Drive and share with the teacher. This appears to be a super simple app/site to solve some issues we have with creating videos.

The Google Gooru gives an inside look at the new Drive.

Found this and had to share.  I am super pumped about this.  Seems to be about 14-17% easier to use. Note: These changes are not yet available in our Google Drive.

BOOM! Check out Google Drive!

The video shows a quick preview of what Google Drive will look like in the very near future.  I am super pumped about these new features!

New! Google Drive! Where will it take you?

The Google products are always suddenly changing.  How do you keep up? Simple. Use a Google product to learn about a Google product. Example: in the last 24 hours Google Play Services (Android) and Gmail have both changed a bit. Steps to unraveling the rapidly iterating Google tool situation. Log into Google+ . Open up communities. Search for Google Drive and join that community. Read all about it! What I have learned in the past day? New ways to manage folders! A missing tool is back! I could take time to describe each feature but it is more valuable for you to join the community and read about it.  I took two screenshots of the posts in the community.
