Creating a Soundscape to Help You Concentrate

This post is part of a series dedicated to mobile devices. The BIG idea is learning new ways to make the most out of the phones we carry. All the recommendations will be free.

Scenario

It is super hard to concentrate at home and in the classroom when I am trying to get work done. I can't listen to music and the TV is distracting. What I would love is a good rainy day, those always helped me focus. How can I do that when it is sunny outside?

Solution

It turns your phone into a sound machine.

It will bring soft rain any time you want.

Getting Started

Send this link to your phone - https://rainbowhunt.com/?maxzzneo#slide-4

Then turn it into a shortcut so you can access it in a snap.

How to on iPhone.

How to on Android.

Next Steps

When you open the site on your phone you will have five options. Click to turn on and then adjust the intensity.

Click the hamburger, the three lines in the upper right.
Click timer to have the sounds run for a set amount of time.
You can also access More Sounds.

These are the More Sounds options.
Sometimes rain can be annoying.
Under More Sounds you can find a bunch of clickable buttons. Clicking will add a layer of sound into the mix.
The boxes that I clicked produced soft chimes, a little wind, and a train.

Do Now

Open the link and experiment to find the right sounds.

I recommend playing it for a good minute to see what it really sounds like over a period of time. These magical sounds do help you focus more than music or TV.

Try it in the classroom, and you will be surprised.

Setting Your Gmail Away Message

You will be away from your classroom for a bit and probably won't be checking email on a regular basis. Wouldn't it be nice to have Gmail respond for you alerting whoever is emailing that you out enjoying your summer? Setting up your vacation responder is pretty simple, a few clicks and a save. Start by clicking the gear icon in the upper right corner of Gmail. Scroll way down the page. Look for the vacation responder section. 1. Click to turn the responder on. 2. Add your first and last days away. We would recommend adding something short and to the point for the subject line. 3. Whatever you add here will be the body of the email you are automatically sending out. It would be a good idea to tell them when you are planning on returning and who to call if they need immediate assistance. We also recommend not checking the two buttons at the bottom. 4. Save changes . That is it. Now your inbox will automatically alert people that you are not in your...
