Files App - iPad

Files App - The Super App

A while ago there was a new app that appeared on the iPad, Files. I opened it but really didn't see a use for it. I rarely use any type of file management, my files are a lot like my desk organization.

Did you know the Files app is way more than just files? Check out one of the most useful things I just learned from Josh and Sherri, our Apple coaches.

Do you ever have something you wish you could scan and then write on? What about the students, is there anything you wish they could scan, write on and then turn in? If yes, keep reading.

Make sure you have the paper you need to scan on a flatish surface.
Then click the Files app. It looks like an old school folder.

1. Click the ice cream cone, the three dots.
2. Choose Scan Documents.

If Auto is selected, far right, all you need to do is line up the doc and the camera will automatically take the picture/scan the document.
If not, click the dot by #1.
2. Click Save.

Click Save.
You can create folders, etc but I usually just dump it to the iPad.

This is the magic step. I opened the doc I just scanned.
1. Click the Markup tool, the pencil icon.
2. Choose you writing tools.
3. Click Done when you are finished.

Setting Your Gmail Away Message

You will be away from your classroom for a bit and probably won't be checking email on a regular basis. Wouldn't it be nice to have Gmail respond for you alerting whoever is emailing that you out enjoying your summer? Setting up your vacation responder is pretty simple, a few clicks and a save. Start by clicking the gear icon in the upper right corner of Gmail. Scroll way down the page. Look for the vacation responder section. 1. Click to turn the responder on. 2. Add your first and last days away. We would recommend adding something short and to the point for the subject line. 3. Whatever you add here will be the body of the email you are automatically sending out. It would be a good idea to tell them when you are planning on returning and who to call if they need immediate assistance. We also recommend not checking the two buttons at the bottom. 4. Save changes . That is it. Now your inbox will automatically alert people that you are not in your...
