72 Million Food Budget + Pierre Cardin = Better Training Ideas

I saw this infographic about what Google feeds their employees.  It really got me thinking about how we train.  Then I saw this segment on CBS Sunday Morning.

When I linked the two together I saw greatness.

Do you see the connection?  Are you as inspired as I am?

Another Bread Posting - From the POV of a Student

Here is an interesting take on how a student uses Evernote in her day to day life.

What did this post teach me?
  • I really need to keep a planner/todo list in Evernote.
  • I had totally forgotten about Clearly.  Need to use that more often.
  • I have really fallen in love with ifttt.  This has me thinking about using it in a new way.
  • I am going to try Evernote Food.

What would you like to try?

My New Best Friend...Pinterest

Pinterest Logo
Remember the olden days when you had a cork board and cut articles out of your favorite teaching magazines of things you wanted to try?  Pinterest is a virtual pinboard that lets you organize and share all of the amazing things you find on the web.  The best part is that you can browse boards created by your fellow educators-collaboration at its finest!

Are you on Pinterest?  If not, e-mail Colin or Angie to request an invitation.  You will need to have a Facebook or Twitter account.

If you are, I would HIGHLY recommend you start following the LiNC team.  (And by team.... I mean crazy Pinterest Queen Angie M.)  You will not want to miss out on all of the awesomeness we will be posting to our boards.

If you want to learn more about Pinterest, you can check out their help page by clicking on this link.

Dick Tracy + Kickstarter + You = Awesome!

There is this website that turns you into a VC.  (Venture Capitalist)  It will allow you to back certain projects at the ground level.  You fund the project and you get a little something in return.  The more you give the more you get.

Here is the direct explanation from the website.
  1. What is Kickstarter?

Kickstarter is a new way to fund creative projects.
    We believe that:
    • A good idea, communicated well, can spread fast and wide.
    • A large group of people can be a tremendous source of money and encouragement.
Kickstarter is powered by a unique all-or-nothing funding method where projects must be fully-funded or no money changes hands.

Take a look at Kickstarter and then at the link below.  This simple project has me up at night thinking about all the amazing possibilities.  This watch serves as an extension of your phone.  I know I can't really explain it so just watch the video.

Top Ten Tips - Evernote

This post was written by a teacher using Evernote in the classroom.  I really like the way he breaks down how he starts to categorize how he uses this software/app.  Read the post.  I have added a few points to give you an idea of his organizational style.

Prior to Class
  • Using it to keep all PD notes and ideas in one spot.
  • A common place to keep all rubics.
  • Sub plans
During Class
  • Sharing a notebook with fellow teachers.
  • Taking pictures of what the students are doing AND pictures of what is on the board.
  • Handouts in a searchable location.
After Class
  • Grading
  • Keeping after school activities in order

Quirky, Quick, Quacky....What is a QR Code?

What is a QR code you ask?  It's short for "Quick Response" and is usually in the shape of a square.  It looks like a bar code with tiny squares rather than lines.  You use the camera on your device to scan the code with a QR reader.

How can you use a QR code in the classroom? Check out this article, Twelve Ideas for Teaching with QR Codes, for some creative ways to use these tools.

How can I create my own QR code?  Check out this brief video.

Do you have 3 minutes to watch this video?

What are students doing with their devices in your classroom?  Share one quick tip here.  What is changing in your classroom?  Let's learn from each other!

GASP! I made a mistake!

It appears that autonomous google cars have only driven 200,000 miles.  I had heard multiple people talk about the million mile mark and I mentioned that a few times.  I just needed to clear that air.  Thanks!

BTW - read this CEO update from google.  Interesting stuff.  This is where I read about the mileage.
What else might you find in this article?
  • Read about what they are going to do with search.  It will blow your mind!
  • Do you still carry a wallet?  That will be a thing of the past!
  • One hour of video uploaded to youtube per second.
  • Search by using a photo and not text.
  • Adword - what can't you do with them!
  • Failing can be a good experience.

Another Sliced Bread Post

Leo Reynolds - one loaf of bread on bread
I know... another evernote post.  I know... we don't all have iPads.

Take a peak at this post.  Don't think about devices but think about the possibilities.  Can you still pull of this ground breaking idea with just your teacher laptop?  You better believe it!

Any takers?  We can help with this idea!

Where do I sign? This is the future I have been waiting for!

Not a joke.  These are REAL!! Augmented reality glasses by google.
What do you think of them?
How would this impact day to day lessons when students show up with them?
